Write Your Children’s Book

Play, write, share!

Course Description

This one-week course takes learners through the children’s book writing process from brainstorming ideas, developing setting, characters, and a strong plot. Learners engage real world artifacts to develop an idea and evaluate model texts.

 

Course Dates:

Session: June 16-20, 2022

Time: 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. PDT

Location: 912 Clay Street, Oakland, CA 94607

Session is limited to 15 learners

 

Supplies Needed

To ensure Learners can share their final product with friends and family, we encourage learners to have access to Google Drive so that the final manuscript can be formatted as a digital book— with turning pages and illustrations.

Strong writers are developed from studying the craft of writing. Learners should have at least two children’s book they enjoy reading to use as models for their own writing.

What Age Group?

This course is best for ages 13-17 years old. Learners should have a self-directed interest in writing and/or visual design/drawing.

About the instructor:

Dr. Lanette Jimerson is a writer, scholar and educator with 20+ years teaching writing. She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators. She has an extensive collection of children’s books and loves to write board books for toddlers.
